CLIENT: Dearing Acting Studio

DELIVERABLES: A clickable mobile application prototype through InVision.

MY ROLE: UX Designer, Head Information Architect, and Lead UI Designer.

CHALLENGE: Dearing Acting Studio has been providing in-person acting classes for over eight years. They have recently redone their website and are now looking for a new way to help students find, enroll, and manage their classes at the studio.

SOLUTION: A mobile application to search, enroll, and manage upcoming acting classes offered.

WHAT I LEARNED: An organization's brand is paramount in in telling their story. Rather than fighting for an entirely new brand, understand what the organization already has in place and work to it's strengths. A good designer will seek to understand everything about an organization, including it's brand.

PROCESS

RESEARCH / TESTING

For this particular circumstance, I spent a good amount of time speaking with the client to get a better understanding of their classes, their students, and their current system in place. Luckily, the studio just completed an entire rebranding, as well as a website makeover.  My research and testing turned into an opportunity to interact with more members of the Dearing Acting Studio both internally and externally which allowed for a broader understanding of the company! I was able to speak with the design team in charge of new site which gave me access to their research findings, as well as their user tests. With this data, I was able to being formulating my design.

NAVIGATION

I had the opportunity to interact with the new Dearing Acting Studio Website a good deal during the design process. My purpose in doing so was the understand how their site navigates so I can attempt to replicate a similar process on a mobile platform. Naturally, there were some limitations. However, the primary user flow was something that I was able to both replicate and optimize for a mobile application based experience.
